Blindfold EQ

What it does

A four band EQ, low shelf, low mid, high mid and high shelf, whose knobs carry no markings. Nothing on the face shows frequency, gain or Q, so settings get found by listening rather than reading. A show values option puts the numbers back when you want them, bands switch out one at a time, and a soft clip and an analog button sit near the output. Settings copy and paste between instances, parameters lock so they cannot be knocked, a dice randomizes everything, and the app carries VoiceOver support.

In the demo

Jade sets it on a piano first, then loads instances across a GarageBand project, on bass, two piano parts and separated drum tracks, each dialled in by ear. With values switched on she shows how much level a few gentle boosts add up to over a whole mix, and shapes the kicks and toms by cutting instead.

Worth knowing

There is no spectrum display and only a short preset list, which is the point of it. Anyone who needs to see a curve while notching a resonance will want a different EQ alongside it.
