What it does

A MIDI sequencer driven by a binary counter. The counter steps up each cycle, and every digit of its binary form is a bit with its own MIDI output: a 1 opens that bit’s gate, a 0 closes it. Each bit carries a note, velocity, gate length, gate type and MIDI channel, plus variety controls that humanize velocity and gate. Gate types cover rest, single, multiple and hold, and AND, OR and XOR logic lets bits open and close each other.

In the demo

Jade builds up in AUM, splitting bits across separate MIDI channels so piano, bass and drums each take part of the pattern. She draws note and velocity rows in with a swipe, adds bits to lengthen the cycle, flips gate types to single and rest, and routes MIDI out to an Arturia MicroFreak.

Worth knowing

It sends MIDI only, so it needs a host and instruments around it, and it sits alongside Cem Olcay’s other Bud apps, which can control it. Anyone wanting to place steps exactly will be fighting the counter, which is the point of it.
