Auto Bass

What it does

A MIDI generator that writes bass lines and sends them to an instrument, making no sound itself. Key, scale and a minimum and maximum octave set the pool of notes available, then complexity, density, spread, offset, gating, velocity and swing shape what comes out of it, with walk styles that send the line up, down, converging or diverging across that range. Line length is set in bars, generated notes can be accented, transposed and nudged off the grid, results are stored in pattern slots, and a line can be exported as a MIDI file.

In the demo

Jade sends it to iFretless Bass, then splits the same notes across three instruments at once so one generated line comes out as a bass, an arpeggio and a lead. She sets the key live from an Arturia keyboard, runs the in-app tutorial for each knob, chains Melody Bud and Pattern Bud in to drive it, and records it into Logic.

Worth knowing

Generated notes cannot be edited one at a time. Moving any control regenerates the line, so a pattern with a single wrong note has to be re-rolled rather than repaired.
