ArpBud 2

What it does

An AUv3 MIDI arpeggiator that takes the notes being held down and plays them through a pattern you draw, rather than a fixed up or down shape. Steps are added and removed freely, and each carries a number pointing at one of the held notes plus velocity, octave, gate, ratchet and probability, all editable by dragging across the lanes. A randomiser covers every one of those and takes a range for each, so a ratchet can be told to land between one and two.

In the demo

Jade latches eight notes on the AUM keyboard, numbers the steps into an up and down figure, then works through each lane in turn against Housemark. A second instance is fed by an Arturia Keystep 37 in chord mode, where she holds one key and changes chord type while it arpeggiates.

Worth knowing

It makes no sound and arpeggiates only what is sent to it, so a latched keyboard or a controller holding chords has to be wired up first. Step values point at notes in that chord, so the same pattern shifts with the input.
