ABDCTN

What it does

A sci-fi synthesizer whose entire interface is a farm at night. The fence is the keyboard, one alien sets the envelope and another the filter, the cow handles detune and reverb, the chimney is drive and the clouds are LFOs. Underneath sit two oscillators with saw, pulse, Shepard stack, noise and ring modulation, a state-variable filter, stereo spread, ping-pong tape echo and reverb. MIDI 2.0 and MPE cover per-note bend, pressure and timbre.

In the demo

Jade runs it in AUM with a free MPE pad app underneath, works out what each creature does by ear, then uses the ray gun to drag LFO assignments onto the alien’s head, its hands and the drive. She flips through preset banks hidden behind the moon and resets an overwritten preset with a double hold.

Worth knowing

There are no labels and no instructions, so finding a control means poking the picture, and the oscillators themselves are not editable. The store lists Mac alongside iPhone and iPad.
